Even after the relentless efforts of staying away from the negative news, we just cannot escape all these things happening around.

We have been struggling with COVID from December 2019 but it took us months to realize how fatal it is to us. Why? Are we so used to the occurrence of such viruses in our habitat that it took several deaths for us to notice and take action against it?

We are not new to such a virus. COVID-19 is a close relative of viruses like SARS and MERS. But COVID is highly contagious and resistant to most natural weather conditions. Doctors state that all those who have recovered from COVID were said to be having a strong immune system.

COVID 19 is being difficult to handle because it’s new to our immune system and now our immunity is strained under this virus. COVID 19 virus has a halo structure with spikes with which it latches on to healthy cells and multiplies causing first.

common cold, fever, cough, and then keep on deteriorating our respiratory system.

There are various important lessons that this COVID Pandemic has definitely taught us. We need to be a little more cautious towards our environment and health.

Here are a few lessons we should learn from this pandemic:

Prevention before the next crisis hits:

The foremost important lesson that we can learn from this COVID pandemic is to listen to science and be better prepared for the next crisis. Many studies have shown that the world was not prepared for such harsh pandemic. None of the governments, business tycoons, small businesses, or public health departments were prepared for this COVID pandemic. So we need to dedicate some of our resources to be better prepared for the future pandemic.

We need some cost-benefit models that can tell the timing and other shutdowns that can save our economy from falling so badly during lockdowns.

Use technology to deploy more work from home:

Corona Virus Pandemic has taught the entire world that work can be done from home. This would help in saving various resources and space to accommodate the human workforce. Many ways can be innovated in cooperate culture that helps in cutting travel costs, office space, etc. Meetings can be conducted online that makes sure that all the staff members are present physically and mentally as well. This would also help in saving the office space and commuting time.

This would not only ensure that efficiency and cost are benefited but also it would benefit our environment in return. Fewer people traveling to work means less fuel invested in the airline, bus, or train journey. Also, less dust on roads would lead to fewer air pollutants and fewer traffic jams.

Let your immune system heal on its own:

An important factor that we all have neglected is that our immune system is capable of curing most of the diseases itself and new ones too if strong enough and given time to explore. This also brings attention to our distrust towards our own immune system and dependability on foreign drugs for the most common of diseases.

With over usage of allopathic medicines in our day to day lives we have weakened our immune system and body’s efficiency to fight against common viruses. Also the modern lifestyle of unhealthy eating, irregular physical activity, mental stress, depression, and anxiety all these factors more or less affects our body. We are cramped in offices behind screens unconscious of when we are sleeping and what we are eating. So this time is most opportune to learn and turn back to simpler healthier conscious living. Mental and emotional health was never a severe problem back but now most people our nurturing unhealthy minds.

Naturopathy and Ayurveda have always been used in India for the cure of several common diseases and were a part of the lifestyle. We have become so metabolically imbalanced that to even attain peace we require outer factors and therapy. Food is said to be the source of serving everything to our body and with growing modernization, we have totally given up on the importance of what we are putting in our body. Not that what we are breathing is much better. We are diseased; everything air we breathe, the soil we grow, the water we drink, and now in this time- off we need to think and work towards a system of self-empowerment, responsible and long life.

Health is Wealth:

Another important lesson to be learned from the COVID 19 Pandemic is to not neglect our physical and mental health. A nutritious diet and healthy body is the factor we all should start working on.  Being conscious of everything around us rather than being run on auto is crucial. Our earth can serve and feed us all without having to eat everything that moves. Eating more than we need and more of what we should not eat is the start of the all problems.

Also eating what we are supposed to eat can improve our sleeping tremendously. It is said that eating more than u need is like giving your body to work extra on digesting it and it requires extra energy we can say which is compensated by extra sleeping at the wrong time.

Addiction habits are also another factor. Though consumption of such substances cannot be talked on moral grounds cause it’s always a personal choice. But in doing so one should also not forget what it is doing to your body. How you are taking care of your body and how much can you cheat on your body, all this can always be amended to keep yourself healthy.

A healthy body and mind will not only be prone to fewer diseases but will be more productive in other areas of life. Dull tired and diseased minds are not likely creative. Creating extraordinary lives needs the support of clear sharp and healthy minds which are again a result of healthy eating and living.

The maximum number of recoveries of COVID-19 are recorded in India and it’s no surprise that Indian foods contain healthy amounts of spices and ingredients that are good to keep our immune system strong.

Hobbies can be relaxing:

Another important factor we all have encountered in this pandemic is so many people are finally doing what they really enjoyed doing. We all should nurture a hobby, activity, skill, talent we really enjoy doing. At the fast pace towards successful careers, we often forget to truly relax and breathe in the air of selfishness of doing something for only ourselves. We all should develop this kind of selfishness of giving a few hours of a week to ourselves to do something only for the sake of our own enjoyment and not for others.

A creative hobby adds a definition to our personality that quenches the thirst of uniqueness required in this monotone working culture. Investing in ourselves and paying attention to our 10-meter surroundings can lead to new discoveries and habits that benefit us.

An Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate Test or ESR is a kind of blood test that helps to know the cause behind the inflammation in a human body. It measures how fast erythrocytes -red blood cells settle down at the bottom of a test tube in which the blood sample is collected. Generally, the red blood cells do not settle fast, but if it settles fast compared to a normal one then it clearly shows inflammation in that person’s body.

Though this test is not for diagnosing pre-existing infections or any other specific disease. The ESR test helps other tests to find out the reasons for inflammation. Inflammation can be caused by many reasons like it can be an allergy, an infection, or an injury. Sometimes it can be because of developing chronic disease in your body or maybe some other health issue.

ESR test helps in monitoring inflammations in the human body.

Why do you need to go for the ESR test?

When you have inflammation in your body, the red blood cells or the RBCs stick together. This clinging would result in affecting the rate at which the red blood cells sink in the test tube in which the blood was ejected.

Thus, this test would let your medical expert know the amount of clumping occurring in your blood. The rate at which the RBCs settle at the bottom of the test tube indicates the inflammation presence. The faster the sinking the more chances of inflammation.

Though the ESR test helps in identifying the inflammation in your body it would diagnose the actual reason for inflammation occurring. This is the reason, why the ESR test is coupled with several other tests. When ESR identifies the inflammation, other tests would pinpoint the reason of that inflammation.

What does ESR Blood Test Checks?

ESR blood test is done to check the inflammation in a person’s body, examples of body inflammation include
Rheumatoid Arthritis- a condition in which a person feels inflammation in his/her joints.
Another is Lupus- A type of inflammatory disease in which the immune system attacks its own tissues, also referred to as systemic lupus Erythematosus.
A doctor can also write this test if a patient has:
• Arthritis
• Muscle or tissue problems like polymyalgia rheumatica

What is the process of an ESR test?

It is the same as a usual process of taking a blood sample, A medical health care professional will take a blood sample with a small needle which will be taken from your vein preferably from the back of the hand or close to the elbow. Then it will be put in a test tube and send in the laboratory for testing by medical professionals. If a patient has cancer, more blood would be ejected for testing purposes. Usually, this process takes 5-10 minutes.

Do we need to take care of certain things before undergoing a test?

Yes, consult your doctors before going through this test because some medicines can create problems in getting true results.
Following are the medicines which can manipulate the test results:
Androgens like Testosterone and Estrogens, Phenothiazines, Valproic acid, Divalproex sodium, Methadone, Phenytoin, Prednisone, Heroin, and, Aspirin -if consumption is too much. If you are using these medicines, you should stop taking it before the ESR test or better talk to your physician about it.

What are the symptoms and when to go for an ESR Test?

When you start experiencing symptoms that indicate inflammatory conditions like IBD- Inflammatory Bowel Disease or Arthritis. Symptoms can be any of the following:

  1. Pain in Joints usually in the morning time
  2. Body stiffness that remains more than an hour.
  3. You may experience a headache with other body pain.
  4. sharp or mild pain in shoulders, pelvis, or neck.
  5. Weight loss
  6. Abdominal pain
  7. Some people experience diarrhea, blood in the stool, or fever sometimes.

How the ESR test is performed?

This test involves a simple blood draw. It should take only a minute or two.

The ESR test is a simple test in which blood is drawn out from your vein. It just takes a minute or two in carrying out a test.

• At first, your vein is identified and skin is cleansed with a chemical liquid.
• Secondly, a needle is put in the vein to collect blood.
• Lastly, the need is taken out and the punctured vein is covered with a cotton ball to stop further bleeding.

The blood sample is sent to the lab and is transferred to a long test tube. This tube is kept for rest for an hour or longer. After completion of 1 hour, the laboratory professional carries out the test to see if the RBCs have settled down at the bottom or have sunk even a bit. This helps them know the inflammation.

The risk associated with an ESR test

ESR test is like a normal blood test it doesn’t have any associated high risk, it involves taking out your blood with a needle from a blood vein. Some minor risk which people might experience are:

  1. People who are excessively weak faint when a little blood takes out from their body.
  2. Bleeding: Very light bleeding
  3. Hematoma
  4. Bruises to the area needle were pricked

  7. Lightheadedness
  8. Tenderness

There are various questions boggling our brains or how this disease spread and why is it too infectious? How can we prevent ourselves from the disease?

Common symptoms of Corona Virus include:

The novel coronavirus first infects the lungs in the human body. And after each passing day the symptoms start showing up, it will start with a fever followed by a dry cough. As corona infects the lungs, the patient will start having breathing problems. The coughing problem is a bit severe than the common cold, the infected person will have more cough than a usual person. Coughing can remain for longer than an hour or it can come in two-three sessions in a day. And if a person already has a coughing problem then he/she will suffer severely.

1. Fever: A condition when your body temperature rises, from the normal range of 98–100° Fahrenheit (36–37° Centigrade). You may experience chills or may shiver as the body temperature rises up.

Other symptoms of Corona Virus include:

1. Shortness of breath: If a person is infected with COVID-19 then breath shortness can be the reason for growing pneumonia. Usually, it happens when oxygen in the lungs couldn’t find its way to the blood because of the viral infection.

2. Aches and pains: It is not necessary that every COVID 19 positive person may experience aches and pain. But in some cases, it is there.

3. Sore throat: People with COVID19 are reported to have pain in the throat and inflammation. Again the symptoms are appeared in some cases, not in all.

4. Some positive tested people report diarrhea, nausea, and a runny nose too.

These were the symptoms of COVID 19 but some people have experienced none of them and still have this deadly disease. And the symptoms level of COVID 19 is from mild to severe. People with weak immunity, mostly old people are more vulnerable to COVID 19 especially those who are already suffering from chronic diseases like diabetes or lung disease.

We also check our blood type by undergoing a simple blood test, which is important when we are required to donate blood to someone or when there is a doubt of being suffered from some genetic disease.

Don’t let doubts trouble you:

A blood test result can be negative or positive if it comes positive then you may undergo the medical treatment etc, but sometimes when blood test results are negative and nothing comes up the person get distressed over it that what causes the abnormality on the first place and why something does not come up?

or is the test results correct? In that case, a person should not keep doubt in his/her mind, here the person should talk to the doctor, only he can clear the doubts and state what has gone wrong in the first place.

How often should you go for a Blood Test?

Your doctor will typically recommend that you get routine blood work at least once a year, around the same time as your yearly physical.

Doctors generally recommend going for a routine blood test once a year. But depending on medical conditions, you might have to go for your blood test quite often.

  • For someone who is working on optimizing their health conditions, they should go for blood tests frequently to get a deeper knowledge about blood components like HDL or LDL cholesterol levels. This allows them to tweak their fitness regime to shield unhealthy foods to enter their body. Such blood tests also help them optimize their diet plans to include more nutrients rich food that their body actually requires.
  • If you are facing some of the weirdest and unusual symptoms for the longest time. This includes anything like fatigue, persistent weight loss/gain, or any other pain. This can be a cause of some disease which can get diagnosed in a blood test.
  • If you are aging and you want to reduce the chances of chronic diseases, then getting a blood test can be a real hero for you. These can diagnose many complications related to heart, kidney or lungs and you can keep these diseases at bay.

How it is done?

A blood test is a process in which a small amount of blood is injected out from the nerve around the center of the elbow. This test is performed by a specialist in the hospital generally by the hematology department. Generally, the blood is drawn out from the elbow nerve but when it doesn’t show, blood can be drawn from the wrist also. It is not a painful process, it’s just like a small ant bite, though kids still get scared of it. For small kids, they rub a cream-based anesthetic on the area before using injection so that they do not feel pain at all.

Why do you require fasting for some blood tests?

Because everything we drink or eat contains some of the proteins, vitamins or any other nutrients. These nutrients can disturb blood components levels and can give false results for some disease diagnosis. Fasting for about 8 to 12 hours ensures that the blood test is apt.

Some blood tests that require fasting are:

  • cholesterol tests
  • glucose tests
  • liver tests
  • blood sugar tests
  • basic metabolic panel
  • kidney tests

Understand the Results

The first way is to simply talk to your doctor and he will explain to you the case and the result. But without a doctor’s help, you can still understand the test results. The medical report you get from the diagnosis center has a result mentioned in it. If you see any report there is a minimum and maximum range of each and every blood component with its value. It is very easy to understand. If your readings lie in the given range then things are ok, and if not, either less than minimum or more than maximum range then it can be an indication of a medical problem. In case of any further abnormalities, it is written briefly at the bottom of the report.

With a blood test, you can know about any possible infection, any organ damage, or any other chronic disease blooming within your body. Diabetes is one chronic disease that is identified by a simple blood test, by testing the blood glucose level in the blood. Many other problems related to the liver and kidney can also be diagnosed with a routine blood test.

Bacteria are the major cause of UTI is but some are caused by fungi and in rare cases by viruses. UTIs are among the most common infections that can happen in the human body.

A urinary tract infection, or UTI, is an infection that can affect any part of your urinary system, which can be anywhere in kidneys, bladder, and urethra.

Women have higher chances of getting a urinary tract infection. According to studies, the risk of getting a UTI in women is as high as 1 in 2, with many women having repeated infections, sometimes lifelong. However, in Men, only 1 in 10 men will get a UTI in their lifetime. Thus, UTIs in men are very low as compared to women.

Let’s have a look at how to handle UTIs and how to make it less likely that you’ll get one in the first place.

Types of UTIs

Urinary infection can affect different parts of your urinary tract. Each type has a different name, based on where it is.

  • Cystitis (bladder): The constant feeling of peeing a lot comes with this type of infection, or it hurts when you pee. lower belly pain and cloudy or bloody urine signify this type of infection.
  • Pyelonephritis (kidneys): This comes with fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, and pain in your upper back or side.
  • Urethritis (urethra): This infection causes discharge and sensation of burning when you pee.

UTI symptoms

There are different symptoms of a UTI but they usually depend on what part of the urinary tract is infected.

For instance, the Lower tract UTIs can affect the urethra and bladder.

Symptoms of a lower tract UTI are as follows.

  • burning sensation while peeing
  • Increased frequency of urination without much amount of it.
  • Feeling of peeing quite often.
  • Blood is there in urine
  • Kind of cloudy urine.
  • Change in color of urine which makes it appear like cola or tea
  • urine with a strong odor
  • In women pelvic pain is persistent.
  • In men rectal pain is persistent.

Kidneys are affected by Upper tract UTIs. This can be extremely dangerous if bacteria move from the infected kidney into the blood. This is called urosepsis and can cause dangerously low blood pressure, shock, and death.

Symptoms of an upper tract UTI are as follows:

  • Constant pain and tenderness in the upper back and sides
  • chills
  • on and off fever
  • nauseous feeling
  • feeling of vomiting

Treatment of UTI

Treatment of UTIs depends on which part is affected and which microbe has caused it. It is easy for doctors to determine which organism is causing the infection from the test results used to confirm the diagnosis.

In most cases, the bacteria cause bacteria. These kinds of UTI’s are treated by Antibiotics. Antibiotics are the most common treatment suggested by doctors for urinary tract infections.

Some of the infections can be caused by viruses or fungi. Viral UTIs are treated with medications called antivirals are the best medications for treating such type of urinary infection. Often, the antiviral cidofovir is suggested by doctors. Antifungals are the Best Treatment for Fungal infections.

Other common treatments include:

  • Another home remedy is drinking lots of water to help shove off the bacteria from your body.
  • A heating pad can also prove to be helpful
  • Cranberry juice has also been suggested from time to time to prevent or treat UTIs. what makes cranberry so effective is the fact that the red berry contains a tannin prevents E. coli bacteria which the most prominent reason behind a urinary tract infection. But researches are still not sure about these remedies’ effectiveness.

UTI diagnosis

If a UTI is suspected based on your symptoms, you should contact your doctor as soon as possible. To confirm a diagnosis of a UTI, the doctor tests urine for microbes.

Different procedures used to diagnose urinary tract infections include:

  • Analyzing a urine sample. A urine sample is taken for lab analysis to look for white blood cells, red blood cells, or bacteria. If the sample contains a large number of white blood cells in your urine. This can indicate an infection. Generally, a urine culture is done to test the bacteria or fungi. The culture helps to identify what underlies the infection.
  • Growing urinary tract bacteria in a lab. After Lab analysis of the urine, urine culture is done. This test helps to identify which bacteria are responsible for the infection and which medications will be most effective.
  • Creating images of your urinary tract. The frequent infections can be a result of an abnormality in the urinary tract, for that, an ultrasound, a computerized tomography (CT) scan or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is done.

Using a scope to check inside the bladder. Cystoscopy is performed if you have frequent infections using a long, thin tube with a lens (cystoscope) to detect inside the urethra and bladder.
